About Arta

Arta Roux, registered psychologist

Arta Roux

Registered Psychologist

I am a registered psychologist with training in rehabilitation psychology and experience working across hospitals, specialist rehabilitation units, community rehabilitation services and private practice settings in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

My experience includes supporting adults affected by acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex orthopaedic injuries, limb loss, chronic pain and other complex medical and neurological conditions. I also work with people experiencing psychological injury and trauma, whether independently or alongside physical injury or illness.

My approach is collaborative, practical and individualised. Together, we explore how your experiences affect your wellbeing and everyday life, and develop an approach to therapy that reflects your needs and goals.

I draw on evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), and trauma-focused CBT.

My aim is to provide a supportive and down-to-earth space where we can make sense of what has happened, understand its impact, and work towards meaningful change and recovery.

Rehabilitation psychology

What is rehabilitation psychology?

Rehabilitation psychology focuses on the psychological and emotional aspects of living with and adjusting to injury, illness, disability and changes in health or functioning.

An injury or health condition can affect much more than physical functioning. It may bring changes to independence, identity, family and social roles, work, relationships, confidence and participation in everyday life.

Support may be helpful at different stages following injury, illness or diagnosis — during acute care, throughout inpatient or community rehabilitation, and during the transition back home or to another living environment.

How rehabilitation psychology can help

Support may involve making sense of what has happened, adjusting to changes, managing difficult emotions and uncertainty, rebuilding confidence, and developing ways of coping with ongoing challenges.

The focus of therapy is individualised and may change as rehabilitation progresses. Goals are developed collaboratively and can reflect both immediate concerns and longer-term priorities for recovery, participation and quality of life.
